Writing contest for teens are one of the easiest types of contest out there to find because there are so many of them. They are probably the largest group of writing contests available each year. However, there are definitely some that really outshine all of the others. If you are a teen and you are thinking about entering some kind of writing contest in 2019, then you might want to take a look at these.

Inkitt Novel Contest

This contest is eligible to any teen that is in high school and has written a novel that is at least 20,000 words. You can submit your novel and a huge community of readers will read your story. Those readers will rate the stories and novels that they’ve read and the more people love your work the better the chances of you winning the grand prize of $300. But you also get a lot more than the money. You get a ton of exposure, you put on a special novel contest winners list and it could even result in a book deal. The organizers call it American Idol for novel writers.

Hypernova Lit

Another terrific contest is this one from Hypernova that welcomes just about any type of writing that you would like to do. That includes traditional prose, genre fiction, short stories, longer short stories, poetry, essays, if you were columns, song lyrics, plays and anything else that you can think of it as a creative writing endeavor. The Bennington Young Writers Awards

This one is open to students that are in tenth, eleventh or twelfth grade. There are several categories that you can compete in. They include poetry, fiction and nonfiction. The fiction can either be a short story or one-act play, the nonfiction can be an academic essay or personal one and poetry is a group of three poems. The top prize each category receives $500 and the second place winners in each category receives $250.

Princeton University 10 Minute Play Contest

For playwrights, there is the Princeton University 10 minute play contest. This is open to students in the eleventh grade. There is a $500 first prize, $250 second prize and $100 third prize. This happens in the fall and the Princeton University program in theater faculty members will be judging the writing.

Princeton University Poetry Contest for High School Students

There is also the Princeton University poetry contest. This is also only open to students that are in the eleventh grade, and it happens around the same time as the 10 minute play contest. Princeton University also holds other types of writing contests that you may want to look into as well if you have not written a play or a poem. The top prize in this contest is $500 while the second prize is $250 and the winner of the third prize gets $100.
